Top crowds attend Twilight Rodeo

Lynne Mowbray |

It was clear skies and all systems go for the annual Lawrence Twilight Rodeo, which was held at the Maclean Showground on Saturday December 29.

President of the Lawrence Rodeo committee Bruce Green said that it was a fantastic event.

“It’s probably one of the best crowds that we’ve ever had,” Mr Green said.

“It was terrific over all.

“We had more in the program (this year) which made us try and push more in on the night.

“There were 246 competitors; up 35 from the previous year.

“A lot of them were juniors.

“The 11-14 yr steer ride, we had 24 entries in that event.

“We’ve never had numbers like that; we put that down to a lot of the campdrafts which have been running a junior rodeo and a lot of the kids that rode, were campdraft kids,” he said.

Mr Green said that the rodeo brings a lot of money into the area each year.

“I know a lot of people from Glen Innes and Goondiwindi and surrounding areas had accommodation booked in Yamba,” Mr Green said.

“A lot of them come down for a week and do the rodeo while they’re here.

“I’d just like to thank the sponsors and all the voluntary workers that got in behind us.

“Without the sponsors and without your workers, you don’t have a show,” he said.
