Thursday Stableford to Dennis Walpole

One hundred and forty four golfers competed in the midweek Stableford at Yamba Golf Club on Thursday and generally, scores were badly affected by the strong wind. Denis Walpole, playing from a solid base, showed his strength when he put together the day’s best round to win the C Grade voucher from Brian Dwyer (38) and Andrew McLennan (37). In A Grade, Kane Hancock returned to the winner’s circle with 37 points from Greg Starr (36) and Graham Kulmar (34). David Cruden was the winner in AR Grade with a fine score of 39 points. In second place was Barry Cook (Tmboon) (37) and Ian Goodman (35) in third place. 39 was a popular score in B Grade when Tony White, Kevin Moran and Tony Moran visited the countback to sort them into the correct order. NTP’s saw a Hole In One to Martyn Tishler on the 3rd which was sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood. The 9th (Peter Campbell Physiotherapist) 72cm and 10th (Seafire Steak & Seafood) 458cm were both won by Danny Quin. Yamba Barber Shop 12th went to Ian Brockwell 136cm. 17th SeaFire Steak & Seafood David McQueen 67cm. The ball rundown went to 34 points with 16 on the back nine. Garry Downes wins Stableford Despite there being great conditions, a smaller than usual field of 130 contested a Stableford event on Saturday. Garry Downes took full advantage of the benign day to record a great round of 41 points to win AR Grade from Frankie Foxover and Albert Fox who both scored 40. Barry Hall was another golfer to score 41 points when he won C Grade from Don O’Brien (40) and Peter Hall (36). Chris Holst had a day out in A Grade with a fine score of 39 points to take the voucher from Warren Thoms (38) and Greg Starr (37). Geoff Leviny make a welcome return to the podium with 38 points to take the B Grade voucher from Steven Henwood (37) and Peter Hall (36). Great back nine Peter. NTP winners were: 3rd John Wright Professional Hole, Chris Host 86cm, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist 9th Steve Hodgson 276cm. 10th SeaFire Steak & Seafood Max Sweetman 209cm. 12th SeaFire Steak & Seafood Geoff Flett 100cm, 17th Bean Scene Hole Warren Thoms 192 and 2nd shot on 17 Bruce Ginn. The ball rundown went to 36 with 18 on the back nine. Father’s Day Cup to Jen O’Neill and Russell Cain The prestigious Father’s Day Cup was contested on Sunday and a close finish saw Jen O’Neill & Russell Cain win on a countback from Sandra Wallace & Warren Hughes with 46 points. In third place was the team of Carolyn Chester & Glenn Scarffe on 45. NTP winners were: Ladies Carolyn Chester, Helen Collins (two) and Julie Campbell.
