The Grafton District Anglers Club

The Grafton district anglers Club held a rock, beach and estuary outing on the 14th and 15th of November, 33 anglers nominated with 14 of those weighing in fish. Those fishing the river in the Yamba area had mixed results, with reports from some of the gun flathead anglers saying they couldn’t find even one for the scales, pleasant conditions greeted anglers early in the day but that soon changed with many anglers being forced to head for cover early in the afternoon due to lightning storms. First place for the outing went to Rick Green on 119 points, Rick fished the northern headlands which produced a good mixed bag of bream and tarwhine his 19 weighing 8.670kg he also managed a tailor of 1.200kg. Second place went to Taigan Heath on 143pts before handicap. Third place went to Lloyd Brown, Lloyd was back on the headlands and beach gutters and managed to find a nice bag of fish he had 13 bream for 6.510kg, 1 groper for 2.530kg and a snapper 1.480kg giving him a total of 120 points before handicap. Other notable catches were Merv Cassie with 16 bream for 6.290kg, Dennis Wynn managed 12 bream for 3.190kg and 2 flathead for 640 grams, blackfish specialist Ron Watterson managed 12 blackfish for 5.700kg. Team Buist were out in force once again with Graham landing 3 bream for 1.300kg and 1 flathead for 370 grams, Jason Buist managed 5 bream for 1.920kg and 1 flathead for 330 grams, Sinead Buist got in on the action as well landing 2 bream for 1.130kg and a flathead 430 grams giving her 19 points this saw her take out first place for the Juniors. Second place in the juniors went to Josh Cashell on 6 points. The next two rock, beach and estuary outing have been set with the December outing being held on the 12th and 13th of December with a weigh in at Apollo 11 park near the race course, and the January outing being held as an open outing on the 16th and 17th of January. The open outing allows anglers who may be away at the time to fish the standard hours from 1pm on the Saturday and obtain a weight docket from any registered scales before 12pm on Sunday, the weight docket must include date, time and signature or stamp from where the fish were weighed and must be submitted to the captain or record keeper within 7 days.
