The Bell, Mason and Ballantyne show

cvindependent   Triples Champions at Yamba Women’s Bowling Club for 2016 is the team of Wynne Bell, Kaye Mason and Wendy Ballantyne. Ultimately, they had a comfortable win, 20-7. But the disparate score line was certainly no indication of the closeness of the game. It was a tight game early, with no more than 2 shots the difference till the 10th end, with Kaye Mason in particular playing some wonderful draw bowls, and Cathryn Aitchison leading with precision. Their team mates all chimed in though, with some top shots when needed. Then on the 14th end when it was in the balance, Cathryn Aitchison, Judy Abbott and Kerry Pedder had been playing some terrific bowls with little luck to be down 7-12, and were holding 2. Wendy then wicked in for a shot to stymie their run, and going 13-7 up, her team then prevailed through to the end. As they did throughout the Championship rounds, Wendy’s team played in combination, with great team work. There seemed to always be one of their bowls there or thereabouts every end, with generally no one player being relied upon. They are to be congratulated on a top effort, in a Championship where two of their lead up games went down to the wire before they emerged winners. Similarly, their opponents, and rookie skip, Kerry in particular, have played some great games to get there, and did themselves proud in the final. Well done to both teams. Also on Tuesday 23, Princess of the Green, Judy Sinclair saw off a challenge from Raels McKibbin to retain her title. The game which was played in difficult conditions, and Raels is to be commended for toughing it out, but the final score-line of 25-9 indicated Judy’s dominance. Judy’s next defense will be against Pam Conley.
