Temporary access changes to Halfway Creek southbound truck rest area

Access to the southbound Pacific Highway truck rest area at Halfway Creek has been temporarily closed to allow a new access road to be built as part of the Halfway Creek to Glenugie highway upgrade. Work is progressing on the 12 kilometre upgrade which is the second section of the 155 kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina duplication project. Progress is being made on the joint funded by the Australian and NSW government project including earthwork and vegetation clearing. In order to build the new Lemon Tree access road, direct access from the Pacific Highway to the southbound truck rest area has been temporarily closed. There will be no access changes to the Coles Express service station or Lemon Tree Road and vehicles leaving the service station will still be able to exit through the rest area. The McPhillips Creek heavy vehicle rest area is a suitable alternative for all road users. McPhillips Creek rest area is located about 25 kilometres north of the Halfway Creek rest area and offers picnic tables, wheelchair accessible toilets, bins and shelters. Motorists are advised to plan their journey and are thanked for their patience while the essential upgrade is carried out.
