Tavern comes aboard for whale watching

Matt Muir from Yamba Shores Tavern has joined forces with Dave Gaden’s Reel Time Charters, for this season’s whale watching tours, out of Yamba. The two friends have worked together on other ventures over the years and have decided to operate the whale watching tours from the tavern, on Saturdays and Sundays. Mr Muir said that the 70-metre long pontoon at the tavern provided the perfect spot for the charters to depart. “The two departure times on Saturday and Sunday, will be 9am and 1pm,” Mr Muir said. “The charters are three hours long and if people want to stay on and have something to eat [when they return], they can. “With the charter departing at 1pm, people can arrive early and have some lunch before going, or if they want to take food and drinks with them from the venue here, they can. “We thought it was a good idea to run the charters out of here on the weekend and if the boats not fully booked, our skipper Brian can put a charter together on the day. “We do however advise people to pre-book.” The Reel Time Charters whale watching tours also run out of the Yamba Marina between Monday and Friday. Last week the two men and their partners took the new whale watching boat ‘Avalanche’ on its maiden whale watching trip and experienced several pods of whales heading north. The whale watching season usually runs between the first week in June and the last week of October. The prices for the whale watching charters are: Adults $80, children under 10 half-price and for a family (of five members) $250. Group bookings are also available.
