Yamba Lions Club held a mixed meeting Thursday November 12 at Yamba Bowling Club where members and guests enjoyed a lovely meal. Our guests included Past District Governor Lion Deyann McDonnel, Zone Chairman Lion Brian Grieve and his partner Lion Robyn as well as our guest speaker, Joelle Webber, who told us all about her journey of how she was chosen as Mrs Australia and her experience with the Mrs Universe pageant where she placed in the top 20 in the worldwide quest held in Belarus. One of the coaches offered to mentor her for a special pageant she has been invited to enter next year. Joelle is determined to spread the message that the quest gave her a platform to help fight domestic violence against children. She told us that children who grow up in a household where domestic violence take place, will probably become part of statistics in the future, because of its effect on children. She was so interesting and so knowledgeable, it would be lovely to hear from her again and find out what the results of her endeavours have achieved. Thank you and congratulations Joelle! Lion Deyann inducted a new member, Glenn Franklin and President Norm made a presentation on behalf of the District Governor, Lion Peter Mercer to Lion Peter Ross who qualified to receive 2014-2015 Club Excellence Award. On November 21, the club will be holding their Youth of the Year quest which is a public speaking quest for students from 15 to 19 years. With the holiday season almost upon us again, the club has a busy time ahead. If anyone is interested in working for our community and would like to come to a meeting, phone 6646 3060 for further information. Meetings are held 2nd and 4th Thursdays at Yamba Bowling Club commencing 7 for 7.30pm. Joy Lauder
