Skate park in sight for South Grafton

At last week’s Clarence Valley Council meeting, councillors unanimously agreed, without debate, to “support in principle further preliminary consultation with Gillwinga Public School, other South Grafton schools and key stakeholder groups” to establish skate park in South Grafton. A petition advocating the construction of a skate park was tabled at the meeting. The mayor and council staff recently met with a teacher and students from Gillwinga Public School. Councillors also decided to receive a report by December 2017, “on the status of the consultation for a skate park in South Grafton”. The report to council identified “near the bus interchange at Silver Jubilee Park, or over the two basketball courts near the public toilets at JJ Lawrence fields” as possible locations. “The budget for a skate park will depend on its size,” the report to council stated. “It would be expected that any proposal would be designed to cater for a range of age groups and skill abilities. “To that end a budget range could be in the vicinity of $250,000 to $450,000.” However, the project is not included in CVC’s current Open Spaces Asset Management Plan.
