One State Championships on the 3rd, 4th and 5th August with District Championship winners from the Clarence River, Northern River, Tweed Byron and Mid North Coast Districts playing to progress to the State finals.
Monday provided spectators and supporters with excellent bowling and several closely fought matches in the Pairs, Open Fours and Senior Fours with Clarence River ‘s Judy Parkes and Sandra Ferro from Maclean winning the Pairs 21/17 against Tweed Byron’s Patricia Pollard and Coral Withers from Pottsville. The Senior Fours match went down to the wire with Cudgen Leagues team of Faye Turner, Margaret Trapnell ,Elizabeth Fleming and June Wotherspoon (NRD) narrowly defeating Grafton’s Jo Pugh, Dawn Lawson, Annette Williams and Bev Murray (CRD) in a closely fought match 21/20. The Open Fours went to Alstonville’s (NRD) Amanda Marron, Maureen Reddell, Betty Jones and Edna Smith who defeated Brunswick Heads (TBD) Beverley Gawned, Jenny Meniel, Judith Wright and Beverley Rose 27/13.
Tuesday once again saw great bowling with a nail biting final in the Triples final with Yamba’s team of Helen Atchison, Robyn McPherson and Marjorie Thompson (CRD) going down to the Park Beach team of Val Maher, Aillsa White and Marie Owen 16/15 (MNC).
On Wednesday South Grafton’s Jen Axon’s consistent bowling saw her win the Singles defeating Ocean Shores (TBD) player Barbara Springel 25/12
Congratulations to all these players who will now play in the New South State Finals to be held at Tuncurry Bowling Club from 24th to 31st October.
