Paging all Clarence Valley bookworms

Emma Pritchard

Books of every description including a multitude of genres will be available for purchase at the Grafton Midday Rotary Book Sale, to be held later this month.

Grafton Midday Rotarian and Book Sale Coordinator Peter Robinson said the biannual event, now in its ninth year, has previously been very successful in the past, adding they are always wonderful occasions to promote the importance of reading and developing literacy skills, especially amongst children.

“It’s always good when you see younger kids picking up books and reading them,” he said.

“That’s something we definitely want to keep encouraging.

“These book sales have always been very popular with the community, and since we first started hosting them, I’d say millions of books have been donated and sold.”

Clarence Valley residents are being encouraged to donate good quality second-hand books for the upcoming sale.

Books can be delivered to Blanchard Haulage at 373 Fry Street, Grafton, or pick-up can be arranged by contacting Mr Robinson on 0408 660 732.

The Grafton Midday Rotary Book Sale will be held at the Criterion Theatre in Grafton from 8:30am–5:30pm on Friday, June 23, and from 8am–1pm on Saturday, June 24.

Books can be purchased for $10 per bag, while all children’s books will be free.

Proceeds from the book sale will go towards the purchase of birthing kits to support communities in Papua New Guinea (PNG), along with assisting in the global fight against the eradication of the infectious disease polio through PolioPlus.

Other funds raised from the event will also go towards local projects and community engagements proudly supported by Grafton Midday Rotary.
