Orchid Society’s Autumn Show

cvi   The Maclean and District Orchid Society Inc held its Autumn Show at the Maclean Bowling Club, during the weekend. Society secretary Sue King said that the show was always a very popular event. “We have around 40 members at the moment from all around the valley including Grafton, Copmanhurst and Iluka,” she said. “Our members are all ages, but mainly between 30 and 90. “It will be 25 years in June since our inaugural meeting and we will be celebrating our silver anniversary during our Spring Show in September.” The Autumn Show’s Grand Champion winner Neil Campbell said that orchids have always been his hobby. “Although I won the championship orchid with a Vandaceous (Vanda Sharon Louise ‘Madam’), I grow a bit of all varieties,” he said. The Orchid Society meets on the third Saturday each month at the Maclean Presbyterian Church Hall from 1.30pm. “We have a mini show at each of our meetings and discuss the orchids,” said Mr Campbell. “We also have other clubs visit and we visit other clubs as well. “We are looking forward to the clubs upcoming three-day bus trip to the Sunshine Coast, where we will be attending two (orchid) shows as well as nurseries and private collectors,” he said.
