November Wykes Tyrepower Cup to Steve Donnelly

What a great competition we had on Tuesday evening of last week, with twenty swimmers competing, as well as our juniors Thea, Myles and AJ.

Feature race of the night was the November edition of the Wykes Tyrepower cup for breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly. Jenny Vickery reached this final yet again, together with Terry Marsh, Steve Donnelly, Adam Pearce and Damien (Marno) O’Mahony. The race was fast and furious, but when the calculations were made it was discovered that Jenny, Terry, Adam and Marno had all received disqualifications for breaking their nominated times. The only finalist to successfully swim to his time was Steve, who was happy to receive the trophy.

The final of the 50 metres freestyle had Marshy, Jill Enks, Lorri Griffiths, Andrew Madden and Yvonne Shorrock ready to dive in. Jill was somewhat horrified to reach this final, as she is not the club’s fittest swimmer. Yvonne and Lorri were the first to finish, but they received Ds for being too fast. Andrew, with the excellent time of 38.4 seconds off a nominated 39 seconds, was the winner, with Jill second and Marshy third.

The 25 metres freestyle, (the “don’t blink or you’ll miss it” race) had finalists Jenny Vickery, Richard Sear, Steve, Doug Ensbey and Taj O’Mahony. Richard and Doug were disappointed when they received Ds but Jenny, who is swimming brilliantly at present, was the happy winner, with Steve second and Taj third.

Our Christmas party took place on Tuesday December 5 at the GDSC after the evening swim.
