There is little doubt that the move the Jabour Park Sports complex by the Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club Inc. has been extremely successful. Not only has the club experienced an increase in membership but also a significant increase in classic and vintage motor vehicles to its vehicle register. Since the Car Club has taken over the South Grafton Sports precinct, there has also been a significant increase in Jabour Park being used by outside interest, in the promotion of various activities. This was highlighted on the recent Queens Birthday Long weekend, when as part of the annual Truck Weekend our Club hosted almost 70 big rigs in a static display put on by the local Grafton Truck Drivers Social Club. The event which was open to the public attracted a large number of spectators, both young and old who were impressed with the many trucks on display. It was also a busy time for the Car Club volunteers who were involved in organising and staffing the Club’s catering facilities, supplying the many who attended with hot food and drinks. To say the truck display was anything but successful would be an understatement, obviously due to the efforts of those involved with the Trucking Association, members of the GVMVC Inc and the Jabour Park Sports Ground itself which proved to be an excellent venue for this type of promotion. Should there be any other organisations or Clubs who would prefer to use the Jabour Park complex for their own meetings, displays etc should contact the Car Club President Doug Clark on 0427 665 200 who can assist with any enquires you may have. There are a couple of upcoming events for members of the Car Club to consider. Firstly on June 25 as part of the NSW Formula One Power Boat Series, the Car Club has been invited to be part of the power boat races by establishing a static display of their vehicles on Saturday June 25 at the Kirchner Street Boat ramp, where the race series are to be held. The display to be held between the hours of 10am to 4pm. Any member who would like to participate in the display should contact Club vice president Kim Dahl on 0418 660 347. Kim is also organising the Christmas in July dinner to be held at the Jabour Park Club Rooms on Sunday July 10 at 12pm for the lunch at 1pm. Those intending to go should notify Kim as soon as possible to enable the necessary catering arrangements to be completed. Also members should be aware that on Sunday July 24, Shannons Show & Shine has been organised and is open to not only club members but anyone who has a vehicle they would like to present for display. They can include vintage, classic, street rods, race cars and other vehicles that would be of interest. A small charge of $5 entry fee will apply to each vehicle taking part.
