New initiative to honour local ANZACS

Fifty-five communities in the Clarence and Richmond Valleys will provide soil samples as part of an innovative way to honour local soldiers who enlisted to fight in World War I, according to Clarence Nationals MP, Chris Gulaptis. As part of the Anzac Memorial Centenary Project, soil samples will be taken from 1,699 sites across NSW and displayed at the refurbished Anzac Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park as part of an artwork by artist Fiona Hall. Mr Gulaptis said the local community will be engaged to participate in the collection of soil over the coming months “It is all about reminding current and future generations of the service and sacrifice of people from all over NSW,” Mr Gulaptis concluded. The Anzac Memorial upgrade will be complete in late 2018. For more information, go to – http://www.anzacmemorial.nsw.gov.au/anzac-memorial-centenary-project.
