Mickey Thompson – a legend in motor racing Mickey Thompson is an American motor racing legend who has been a leader in tyre innovation since 1963. He holds more auto speed records than anyone else and is well known for his high performance 4×4 tyres for both on and off road. He was the first to devise tyres with tread running down the side wall of the tyre for off road use, and Kevlar belted 4×4 tyres are another of his concepts. In 1963 he created the wide low-profile tyres that are used on race cars today and his tyres were also used on fast attack vehicles in the Gulf War. 4WD tyres available today feature many of the innovations of Mickey Thompson.
