More Fire Ants found near QLD border

A new Emergency Biosecurity Order has been implemented in parts of the Tweed Shire following the discovery of a Red Imported Fire Ant nest at Currumbin Waters, just 1.2km from the state border last Friday.

The Red imported Fire Ant nest was destroyed by the National Fire Ant Eradication Plan team.

This is the third Emergency Biosecurity Order EBO issued for the Northern Rivers in the past six months relating to Red Imported Fire Ants, after nests were found near Murwillumbah and Wardell.

The EBO prevents the movement of Red Fire Ant carrier materials including soil, mulch, turf, and hay out of the EBO zone, impacting residents and businesses in the Piggabeen and Cobaki areas in the northeast of the shire.
