Meet the larrikins of Mareeba!

Is there anything better than enjoying good food, a beer and plenty of laughs with mates on a sunny winter’s day?

Members of the Mareeba Men’s Group were lucky enough to enjoy the perfect outing to Yamba recently with a delicious lunch at the Yamba Bowling Club followed by a leisurely stroll along the picturesque break wall.

The day was organised by Mareeba Aged Care team members Jason Gillett and Kay Bruchert, who said nice food, fresh air and exercise were the key ingredients to having a good day.

Held every Thursday, the men’s group is an important and entertaining way for residents to connect.

Mareeba Facility Manager Leanne Hancock said research had consistently shown that developing friendships had social, emotional and physical health benefits and helped to reduce the impacts of loneliness.

“They have a beer, share some laughs and enjoy some quality time together,” she said.

“You see their inner larrikin come out as they relax in good company while participating in the activities for the day.”
