Maclean Mens Golf

Life member John Gorman, the man who organises Wednesday’s 9 hole skins, had a top round this week with two 4 pointers and one 3 pointer to take the day with 5 skins. Treasurer Mark Hemmy believes John had been fired up when someone attached the Sharks logo to his golf cart even though he is a die-hard St George supporter. Mick Rogers put on some trick shots to impress his partners according to Mark. Thursdays Single Stableford was won by Michael McGowan with a fine round of 39 points. The runners up trophy was taken by Noel Butcher, one of the Lawrence mob, with 37 points on a countback from John Fong Kee. Jeffrey Miller was in top form taking out the NTPs on both the 7th and the 11th holes whilst Graeme Roberts won the 17th. Pro balls went down to 33 points on a countback. Danny Woldseth showed his chipping skills to hole out from 30 metres from the back of the 14th green. Craig Slaters fairway shot on the 13th wasn’t quite so impressive however going backwards a metre! Saturdays Medley Single Stableford sponsored by the Clarence Hotel attracted a good field with visitors from Grafton, Yamba and Cairns. Bruce Johnston put together a solid round of 39 points to take the major trophy. Derek Bloomfield edged out Jeffery Miller on a countback to take 2nd place with 38 points each. NTPs went to Geoff Greenwood on the 2nd, Gregory Dickinson, who hit the pin, on the 7th, Wayne Mackaway the 11th and Greg Saul the 17th. Pro balls went down to 34 points on a countback. Richard Parker, an avid South’s supporter, brought along his own team of red and green fans who had a very enjoyable day both on and off the course. Sunday April 3 sees the start of the Maclean Sunday Mix with a mixed 4BBB. Be there at 8am for an 8.30 shotgun start. Cost is $20 which includes lunch. Bookings are essential so ring the club on 6645 2183 to register. Next Saturdays event is a Medley Stableford sponsored by “The Links Stay and Play”.
