Maclean Men’s Bowls

The final of the Club Open Triples was played last Thursday evening. Kerry Wells team of Rex Wiseman and Len Everson commenced well and at the mid-point were leading by the odd shot. The second half saw Don Plummer’s team of Michael Bailey and Trevor Johnson hit their straps to grind their opposition down. It was a high class match with excellent bowls played by both teams. Congratulations to Don’s team on a great win and a well done to Kerry’s team as the runners-up. The first round of the Club Open Pairs was played on Sunday morning. For full results of matches played in both Championships plus matches set down for future play. Pennants: We did not fare well in any grade last weekend, going down in all four played. It is hoped we can improve this Saturday when the second half of this year’s competition starts. In this round on Saturday we play: Grade 3 at home against Grafton GDSC. Grade 5 away against Yamba. Grade 6 away against Yamba (Blue) and Grade 7 at home against Red Rock. Nominations for this year’s Club premier event the Open Major Singles is now open. The closing date is Tuesday April 20 at 5pm. First matches on Sunday April 24. Nominations are also open for the Veteran’s Singles which close on April 29. A reminder the travelling bowlers ‘The Cane Cutters’ will be having their next trip away to Alstonville Club on Thursday April 14. The bus departs our club at 10am on the day.
