Twenty one Maclean High School rowers competed recently in the ‘Head of the River’ regatta where the competition is always tough against the bigger schools from New Zealand, Queensland and NSW… but they held their heads high. For some rowers it was their first time at a bigger regatta and a new experience. All rowers did well, with the following bring home medals: Maneesha Davis, Georgie Dobbin, Eryn Hammond, Amie Inmon and Hope Baker (cox) brought home the only Gold medal for the school when they won the Championship Schoolgirl Coxed Quad Scull. Hammond and Inmon won the bronze medal in the CSG double scull. In the CSGU17 coxed quad the crew of Elissa Metcalfe, Clara Samms, Kirilly Maxwell, Stephanie Hutton and Declan Hickey (cox) won the silver medal. In the CSGU17 double scull Hutton and Samms were 2nd in their heat and advancing to the final where they won the bronze medal while Maxwell and Metcalfe were 4th in their heat also advancing to the final finishing 6th. Lachlan Maxwell won the silver medal in his division of the SBU15 single scull. Logan Bolton and Ben Young came 4th in their heat of the CSBU17 double scull and were 8th in the final. Angus Cassidy and Lachlan Fischer were 3rd in their heat of the CSB double and in the final finished 6th. Candice Jagoe the MHS rowing co-ordinator has done a wonderful job this year encouraging rowing in the school. These results cannot be achieved without Candice’s work and the time given by the coaches Harold Kratz, Betty Bodgdanek, Keryn Saunders and Clare Millist.
