Macca’s Memorial Shield

On Saturday as part of the Lower Clarence Magpies ‘Back to the Showground Day’ they held the Inagural Mark McIntyre Memorial Shield Day trial game against South Grafton Rebels.

This day is set to be an annual event in honour of Mark, a well-known local football legend who played for both Lower and the Rebels. Mark represented NSW Country, Captain Coached and is named in both club’s ‘Teams of the Century’.

Over 1000 supporters attended on the day to see the Rebels claim the first year of the shield. Lower Clarence won Reserve Grade and Under 18s and all games were played in good spirit. A spectacular display of an ‘Old Boys’ game was also played between games with many players playing for both clubs at some stage in their football career.

Mark’s family and both clubs agreed to raise funds on the day for ‘Our House’ in Lismore.

Lower Clarence hosts another trial game at the Maclean Showground this Saturday March 23 against Northern United who have recent signings of Ex NRL players Tyrone and James Roberts.
