Loose wheel smashes into vehicle at Swan Creek

A Grafton resident was lucky to avoid injury earlier this month following a serious incident on the Big River Way.

The Hyundai Santa Fe they were driving was struck by a loose tyre as they travelled southbound past Swan Creek, about 11km north of Grafton, on March 10.

The loose tyre, still with its wheel nuts attached, is alleged to have come off a trailer or caravan travelling in the opposite direction.

The loose wheel collided heavily with the front of the Hyundai Santa Fe, smashing the bonnet and subsequently resulting in the vehicle being written off after it was declared undriveable.

Although shaken by the incident, the driver did not sustain any injuries.

They were the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The driver said the vehicle the loose wheel is alleged to have come from did not stop.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

When contacted by the Clarence Valley Independent, police media reported there was no further information available at the time.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or dash cam footage is urged to contact Grafton Police on 66 420 222, or CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
