As a result of the catastrophic bushfires which impacted the Orara Valley late in 2019, the Orara Valley Lions has been working hard with Woolgoolga Lions to provide support for the local people (impacted by the fires).

The Orara Valley Lions managed to help the communities of Nana Glen, Glenreagh and Nymboida with a limited supply of 5000ltr water tanks for people who had no insurance and lost their water tanks.

The majority of the 22 water tanks were delivered in February.

The Orara Valley Lions were also able to provide some support to the fire impacted children living in these fire affected areas.

The school principals all agreed that because parents are struggling to rebuild their homes, any donated funding would be greatly appreciated.

The best method of ensuring that funding reaches the students, was to pay for their school fees and excursions (to assist in student’s mental health) and any remaining funding could be used for basic books and writing materials lost in the fires. By doing this, it would help the parents and be one less thing for them to have to worry about.

The Coutts Crossing school has eight children directly impacted from the recent fires. Nymboida school has 17 children impacted and Nana Glen school also has eight children impacted.

Some of these families lost their homes and everything in it.

The Orara Valley Lions were able to provide a total funding of $6,500 towards assisting with these children’s needs.

The principals and teachers, who know the children and their circumstance, will administer the funds inhouse through their school system.

These local Lions Club members are determined to support their local communities and were more than happy to use their funding for such a great cause.
