Happy Paws Haven

Christmas has been and gone, all the sales are almost finished; it is so hard to believe as time has gone so quickly. We have achieved 207 adoptions in 2020 which is wonderful. We have more scheduled this week. The pups are really developing well as you can see. The kittens are proving very popular as well. We have a special kitten, he is a beautiful chocolate point Birman with a birth defect, he has no rear right foot just a stump with a pad but it does not seem to stop him. We had three of them but two have already gone to wonderful homes. We have had two new rescues, dogs, one came down from Brisbane as his owner could not afford to look after him due to Covid. The other was found on Summerland Way not far from Clarence Way on Christmas Eve. A good Samaritan took her in and could not find anyone to help her so she rang us on Christmas Day, luckily we had a spare pen for exactly this type of situation. We took photos and put her up on facebook. It is a very powerful tool which we often use for situations such as this. We found the owner who had only had her for a couple of weeks which lead us to the original owner who had rehomed her due to it was her mother dog. Her mother had recently passed away and no one in the family was able to take her. She was not chipped at the time, the daughter came and signed her over to Happy Paws for rehoming. We will get all the necessary vet work done and she is now already chipped, just needs a vet check, heart worm test, vaccination and desexing. She is a lovely dog. We are desperately needing help over the next week at least with the animals as our regulars are having a break for new year. We are urgently in need of some handy people as well to help us renovate the dog cabins and cattery, this is really urgent. We the second yard has been completed now but the cabin needs renovating, a shed to build, the cattery to fix up and the outside enclosure to finish. We still need to go through each yard, fix all the cabins including their ventilation systems and fence stays before the really hot weather hits us. We are trying hard to find some people who can come regularly especially on the week-ends to help with the animals, not only after Christmas but now as well. Please spread the word as we really do need your help! It is puppy season and kitten season, the vet bill has been paid but it was big, and we still have pups and kittens to vaccinate and desex. We have most of the materials but not all to complete the kennel maintenance. Again we need help, any contribution large and small, everything counts. Rescues and Surrenders We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know! Our restrictions are not only financial but also due to vet availability. We are restricting our capacity to keep our numbers down due to Covid-19 and the impact on our donations. Our numbers in care are being carefully maintained, We have closed the doors as we are full. We are only taking animals in crisis. Cats and kittens for adoption this week We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is R251000043 Linden with his mother and his siblings were surrendered as their owner could not afford to keep them get all the vet work done and feed them properly. Linden takes after his beautiful chocolate point Birman mother he is very affectionate playful mischievous young kitten with loads of personality. He is a very special boy like his sister Lissa he has a deformed foot his rear right hand foot which is missing. It does not stop him being a loving playful kitten with slightly feisty but timid nature. He has been desexed chipped and immunised. Louise arrived as a small baby in a litter of six with their mother Loulou at the end of September and went straight into foster care. Loulou was a wonderful mother making sure her babies were well fed although she was in a bad state. Louise like her mother is a lovely young lady and gets on well with all the other kittens. She is very affectionate, playful mischievous kitten. She loves being stroked and will happily come jump up on your lap only to run climb and play. She is now desexed, microchipped and immunised as are her siblings ready for their new homes. 991003000829322 My name is Sancia. My brothers and I were found in the bush without our mother, some nice people looked high and low for her but she could not be found anywhere so we were bought to this nice place called Happy Paws Haven. Where we met some other kittens with our carer, which has been great fun. We have places to hide, things to climb and lots of toys and balls to play with. We are normal playful affectionate kittens looking for a forever home. We have been vaccinated, microchipped immunised and treated regularly for all the normal parasites. 991003000593869 Dogs for adoption for this week We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our Rehoming number is 251000043 Rocco was surrendered as his owner was not able to look after him anymore. It was a very reluctant surrender but due to work commitments and family issues was no able to give him the home he needs. He is a lovely dog who was initially shy but after a couple of weeks here meeting new people and other dogs has settled in nicely and now shares a very large yard with two other similar aged dogs and is having a ball. He would make a great companion and/or family dogs. He has had some basic training and loves to be with humans as well as his own kind. Figaro is one of a litter of eight, of which we received five in a very poor condition, every rib and the hip bones were showing. They said that they were already 8 weeks old at the time but we knew from their teeth they were much younger. Today they are different dogs completely, healthy, nicely filled out, playful, friendly, normal naughty pups who have been desexed, immunised, microchipped and regularly treated for all the normal parasites. Figaro is a gorgeous boy, a little different from the rest as he has brindle on his legs from the knees down. They are ready for puppy preschool and training, a family to be with and to continue their socialisation. 991003000593862 Ding’s owner died and his wife has moved into an apartment so could not take with her. At first Ding was afraid of everything and everybody, now she is the house yard with a number of other dogs and sleeps in a crate at night in the house. She loves being with people and is still a bit shy of some dogs. She is naturally submissive to bigger dogs. She gets sick of pups vying for her constant attention. She is looking for her human to be with all the time so would make a wonderful companion. She is desexed, chipped and immunised ready for her new home. 991003000829346 HappyPaws Haven is open seven days a week for animal adoptions.
