Last Wednesday saw Day 2 of the Enid Dougherty Challenge held with some great scores being posted in the 4BBB Stableford event which attracted a field of 56 starters. On 46pts, a c/b was used to determine the winners with the pairing of the evergreen Norma Carter and the recently returned to form Anna Bidstrup taking the “cash” ahead of our always consistent Captain Noeline Smith and Secretary Lyn Dahl. We are told that some lovely golf and good combining was the key to the successful outcome for both of these partnerships. This result has put Norma and Anna into the lead heading in to today, Wednesday’s, final round of the 3 Day Challenge. However, there are a number of teams hot on their heels and up for the challenge. Jen Townsend and Cheryl Shanley with 43pts came in 3rd placed last Wednesday followed by Desiree Whitton and Liz Fisher on 42pts on a c/b. Our NTP winners were Kaye Murdoch/Julie White (1st) and Jane Wolfe/Trish Clarke with their 2nd shot which was in the hole on the 10th. Friday’s Stableford event last week accommodated a field of only 18 starters following some welcome rain (for the golf course) which fell on Jacaranda Thursday. Cheryl Shanley and Jen Townsend continued their good golf for the week coming in as the winner on 35pts and the r/up on 33pts respectively. Elaine Shand was the 2nd r/up on 32pts. Jen took the NTP on the 1st and Elaine on the 10th. A very happy group of 6 trippers headed up to Byron Bay after golf last Wednesday to compete in the 2 day tournament which was held in very humid conditions on the challenging but exquisitely picture perfect Byron Bay Golf Course. The best of the Grafton players in the 18-hole stroke event was Kaye Murdoch who was playing the course for the very first time. Julie was the very excited winner of 1st prize in the fantastic daily raffle on the Thursday. Byron Bay’s Ladies Club Champion, Eleka Moore, playing off a handicap of 2, was the overall gross winner on the day with 82. Byron Bay’s 4BBB event on Friday drew a capacity field and was again played in hot steamy conditions. Mary Atkins and Julie White returned the best Grafton score on the day with 38pts following a few nice pars and no wipes during the round, despite the formidable greens. The winning score in the 4BBB event was recorded by the Byron Bay Ladies Captain, Marjorie Askew and her partner with 44pts. Over 25 of our lady golfers last Tuesday thoroughly enjoyed the Inner Wheel Jacaranda/Melbourne Cup Luncheon which was held at the Golf Club. Queen Charlotte and her party together with the 2015 special guest, Stella Wilson, made an appearance and happily involved themselves with the ladies. The customary photos were taken with past Queens and Matrons of Honour, which included some of our golfing ladies. With our upcoming Party Day to be held on Wednesday 25 November, could all players intending on attending our champagne breakfast on the balcony that morning at 7am, please give their names and money ($8) to Jen or Marilyn as soon as possible. Names for our Presentation Night to be held on Thursday 26 November should also be given to Jen or Marilyn as soon as possible. Our Ladies AGM will be held this Sunday, 15 November commencing at 10.30am. The Veteran’s AGM will precede this meeting at 10.15am. Julie White
