Grafton Women’s Golf ‘Opening Days’ coming up

Captain Noeline Smith and her match committee have been putting the finishing touches to our programme for 2016. We are very grateful to all our sponsors who are supporting us this year and we sincerely thank each and every one. Our Saturday Opening Day is scheduled to take place on February 13. An 18-hole 4BBB stableford competition with a draw for partners will be held, and players can enter for this event via our computer terminal in the clubhouse or, alternatively, by phoning the Pro Shop or by arriving on the morning at approximately 7am. Shirley Goodger is the generous sponsor of this event. Our Wednesday Opening Day has been set down for February 17 and will once again be kindly sponsored by Debra Tennant of Southside Pharmacy. The event will take the form of a Four-Person Drop out Ambrose with a shotgun start at 8.30am. Players are requested to nominate for this day as soon as possible via our computer terminal, or by phoning the Pro Shop, as a draw for partners will be carried out for the event. Following on from the introduction to golf clinics, which our Professional Mark Harvison will be conducting on Monday 8, 15 and 22 February, our Opening Day for the 9-hole players and beginners will be held on February 29. A four-person drop out Ambrose competition will be played with a draw for teams and will commence with a shotgun start at 8.30am. Please endeavour to place your name on the entry list in the clubhouse prior to the event and report to the Pro Shop by 8am on this day. Entries in our competitions which are being conducted at present are continuing to grow and it is noted that on last week’s corresponding Wednesday in 2015; we fielded the exact same number of starters. The 32 players on Wednesday enabled the committee to run two divisions for the 18-hole Stableford event. Elaine Shand, our medal girl, continued with her fabulous summer form and was able to take the win with a great score of 36pts. She recorded birdies on the par four 8th and 14th holes. Second place went to Cathy Jones on 33 on a c/b from Cheryl Shanley. Div 2 saw Lorraine McLaughlan the winner on a c/b from Fran Marshall on 34 with Julie White 3rd placed on 33. Balls went to Liz Smith, Peg James, Jan Davis, Sonya Baker, Helen Packwood, Desiree Whitton and Jen Townsend on 30 on a c/b. NTPs went to Sharyn O’Grady (1st and 6th) and Kerry Harding with her very close second shot on the 17th. Friday’s very warm morning brought out a number of keen early morning players for a 9-hole round with a ball competition held by our Professional Mark Harvison. Round 12 of the Bendigo Bank Summer Consistency Competition was played in Saturday’s Stableford event which saw a field of 13 competitors. Conditions for the morning’s play were quite steamy and oppressive with a light drizzle of rain here and there. Julie White took the winner’s “cheque” with 36pts, which included a birdie on the par five 2nd hole for four points. Courtney Fuller had her first game with the Saturday ladies in quite some time and posted a tidy 34 to come in as the r/up. Courtney’s second shot on the 17th also gave her the NTP. Julie White
