Owing to the absence of president Lyn, vice president Doreen Winkley chaired this month’s meeting of the Grafton Floral Art Society.
Doreen welcomed members, but unfortunately three apologises received and accepted.
No correspondence was tabled for attention.
A phone call had been received from Lyn advising that an incorrect date had been submitted to Grafton Shoppingworld regarding the floral display to be held July Race Week. She advised she would have it rectified.
A welcomed visitor to the meeting was Leonie Roberts, who bought members up to date re the floral art schedule for the Grafton Show, as the Society sponsors section of the exhibits.
The exercise for the meeting, was for members to bring along alternative, mechanics and to illustrate the manner of their use. For example, chicken wire, pin holders, glass rose bowl holder, thick stems, twigs and small sticks, in lieu of using floral foam.
Doreen illustrated two free expressions, one using massed short stems of strelitzia’s in a trough container and one in a clay bowl in a bed of twigs.
Often common materials, which have been overlooked can be utilised, especially for interpretive designs.
A reminder to members that the next meeting of the group, will be held of March 26 at the Whitehouse meeting room and everyone is most welcome to attend.
