Governor of NSW to visit the Clarence Valley

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, and her husband Mr Dennis Wilson will visit Yamba, Maclean, and Grafton, between October 26-28.

“We look forward to visiting Clarence Valley communities to hear about local experiences, and to learn about the achievements and challenges of this region which is so rich in cultural, agricultural, and natural heritage,” the Governor said.

“We are also excited about joining in a number of the events of Grafton’s iconic Jacaranda Festival.”

In Yamba, the Governor and Mr Wilson will tour Sunshine Sugar, Australia’s oldest continuously operating sugar mill and refinery, and meet with members of Marine Rescue NSW Iluka Yamba, before viewing exhibitions at Yamba Museum.

Later, they will meet with Maclean District Hospital staff and local volunteers of the United Hospital Auxiliaries of NSW, of which the Governor and Mr Wilson are Patrons.

On World Teacher’s Day, October 27, they will meet staff and students from Maclean High School, including its award-winning Cattle Showing Team.

In Grafton, the Governor and Mr Wilson will participate in the culture and learning of the Grafton Jacaranda Festival’s River Dreaming: A Day of Culture, before receiving a presentation by Clarence Valley Council (CVC) and attending the free concert.

On October 28, the Governor and Mr Wilson will join in the fun of the Grafton Jacaranda Festival’s Parade of Youth and Banner Competition, after which they will attend Clarence Correctional Centre where there will be a presentation of programs undertaken by inmates as well as a cultural performance.

A visit to the award-winning micro business HoneyBee Hives will follow.

Later, as joint Patrons of Croquet NSW, they will take to the lawn alongside members of Coutts Crossing Croquet Club.

The Vice Regal visit will culminate with the Governor and Mr Wilson participating in all the colour and night-time magic of the Westlawn Royal Party Crowning Ceremony, a special highlight at Grafton’s Market Square.
