Threatening skies and the odd light shower of rain did not deter swimmers last week.

A standard program was on the agenda with the feature race being the Wykes Tyrepower Cup.

With the heats out of the way, the starter and judges got down to the serious business of getting the finals underway with the first being the 50m freestyle.

Lining up for this final were Bruce Phelps, Damien O’Mahony, Toni Ensbey and David Moon.

On handicap, Toni was away first and had covered quite some distance before the boys took chase, with Damien and Bruce fighting it out right to the death.

Their times could not be separated so the judge decided to hand the win to Bruce with Damien taking second and David third.

Jill Enks, Toni Ensbey, Damien O’Mahony and Yvonne Shorrock were the finalists in the 30m freestyle.

Yvonne was out to break all records in this event, crossing the line first but with a break of .59.

Damien, swimming an exact time was placed first with Jill in second place and Toni third.

The B B & B final was the last race for the evening and hoping to take home the Wykes cup were Bruce Phelps, Anne Simkus, Toni Ensbey and Geoff Simkus.

Anne flew through the water and was first over the line only to hear that she had broken by 1.37 seconds. Next home was Bruce but once again a disqualification was handed out as he was .83 too fast.

Geoff was awarded the win with a very grateful Toni taking second place after managing to struggle through all three finals.

Entries for the AIF National Titles are now closed and at last count, Grafton had eighteen swimmers nominated. All swimmers are looking forward to the competition and friendships that are formed at these titles.
