From Grafton Women’s Golfers to Friends Who Care

President Heather Robinson warmly welcomed a few special guests to our presentation afternoon. Friends Who Care representatives, Rosemary Munro and Denise Barnier addressed our ladies and outlined some of the wonderful work this outstanding group of volunteers do within our community, supporting patients and families at their most difficult time. As a result of donations made by our ladies at our 2015 Presentation night, together with funds raised throughout last year by Saturday players, Heather was delighted to present to Rosemary and Denise a cheque for $365. We are sure that this donation will be able to further assist this group continue with their brilliant work. Despite the oppressive heatwave conditions that continue to make our golfing lives here at home uncomfortable, last Wednesday’s medal round attracted a good number of 60 ladies to contest the event. Tania Clark of Allure Derma Cosmetic Skin Clinic was our generous sponsor for the day and no doubt Cathy Jones will enjoy her reward as the overall winner of the day with a 71 net. Medals on Wednesday were awarded to Norma Carter in Div 1 with 74 c/b from Sharyn O’Grady and Elaine Shand. Cathy was the Div 2 medal winner. Dale Bax received the 1st place prize for Div 2 with 73 c/b from Heather Miller and Shirley Avery placed 3rd on 74. Div 3 medal winner was Val Franey with 73 c/b from Jan Davis and Sue Byrnes was 3rd placed on 74. Gross winners were Sharyn 86 c/b, Cathy 93 and Val 102. Our O.B.E. winner on the day was Jean Dahl on 75. Putting winners were Peg James 30, Sandra Gleeson 29 and Val 31. Tuesday March 22 is the date for our annual inter club challenge visit with Woolgoolga. Names are now being taken for any lady interested in travelling to Woolgoolga on this day. Grafton was the winner of this event last year when it was held at home and we will be endeavouring to hold onto the Wooden Platter. The hot players once again ventured out for our Friday Stableford which saw a field of 28 starters confronted with the continuing February hot and humid conditions. The hottest of hot for the week was Cathy Jones as she continued with her Wednesday form to come in as the winner of Div 1 on Friday with 35pts c/b from Marianne Mannell. Elaine Shand placed 3rd with 34 c/b. Div 2 on Friday saw our long serving handicapper and committee member, Mary Katte take 1st place with 38pts, followed by Bev Snowdon on 33. Marilyn Powell must have worn her golf shoes on Friday, as she posted a lovely 32pts (12/20) for 3rd place. On Saturday we were happy to welcome two visitors to our stableford event. Kim Wiblen (Maclean) made the trip up the river and Sarah Cox (Wauchope) both joined in with the other eight players for an enjoyable morning’s golf with lots of laughter. Shirley Goodger was the star player of the day with a fantastic 39pts to come in as the winner from Janet Croft on 36 for 2nd place. Shirley was very happy to take the win as she relayed it had been a while between drinks. Balls were awarded to Chrissy and Marianne with Carol taking the NTP on the 6th. We wish our Grafton players, and adopted ring ins, who are heading down river this week to compete in the BWAC Regional ALPG Pro Am at Yamba, the very best of luck and good golfing. We are sure that these golfers will also enjoy the extra activities that go with this tremendous tournament. Julie White
