Harwood Island Cricket Club has announced their two guest speakers for their 150th anniversary of their club later this month. Former Australian captain Mark Taylor and umpire Peter Parker will be their headline acts with Mr Parker agreeing to be the MC for the night. Club president Tim McMahon and his committee are planning for the celebration and hope the broader community come out and support this fundraiser for the club. “We are really excited to announce these two cricket greats will be joining us on the night and they have a wicked sense of humour sense it should be a fun night. The goal for our event is to raise funds to upgrade the field so where we can host more rep games and more junior cricket. We want to be able to host women’s cricket and for touring teams to bring more people to our region to further enhance the development of our juniors”. Mr McMahon said. The club is now looking to raise funds for further infrastructure improvements. “We need to raise money so we can build some dressing sheds for players and umpires, a canteen and a machinery shed. We are now looking for any old club memorabilia we can put on display during a planned dinner event too. We were pretty surprised we started back in 1867 so there has to be some great old photos, and bits and pieces out there somewhere”. Mr McMahon said. A dinner will be held at the Maclean Bowling Club on Saturday August 26 at 6pm. Tickets are $50 from the Maclean Bowling Club; phone 6645 3711.
