Ferry Park Gallery, Community Art Space exhibition

cvi   Local artist, Brian Doherty, currently has an exhibition of his work in the Community Art Space at Ferry Park Gallery, this will be on display until Saturday 6th February. Brain says; “I have been involved in art since the 1960s. I completed a Dip Art Education at the National Art School- East Sydney Tech College and later a B.A Visual Arts from Southern Cross University Lismore. I taught art in a number of high schools over 27 years including Dubbo High, Swansea High as head of department and Maclean High as head of department. Previously I had been a primary school teacher in numerous schools. I was Art Advisor for the Newcastle Educational region and Central Metropolitan region over a period of 4 years. During this time I have continued my personal art practice, showing work in numerous exhibitions in Grafton, Sydney, Newcastle, Lismore, Dubbo and Yamba. The works I have chosen to exhibit are informed by the long tradition of Australian landscape, my environment and locale, and my interest in contemporary art practice. I hope to communicate my understandings of art through literal, metaphoric and symbolic language which is both a product of my practise and an appeal to the viewer’s visual awareness and sensibilities. All art practice is based on the artist’s personal perspective and interpretation of the environment. It can be many layered, or it may be uncomplicated. It may be conceptual, theoretical, literal or subversive but it is always underpinned by the artist’s commitment to the ongoing development of knowledge and skills informed by an exploration of ideas, methods and the ever changing nature of human communication“All works displayed are for sale.
