Exemplary action by Lawrence Tavern

Ed,

As a regular traveller to Grafton via Lawrence and with the diversion of the road to the rear of the Lawrence Tavern since the opening of the new Sportsman Creek Bridge, it became apparent that there was what appeared to be a caravan park, had materialised in the rear grounds of the Tavern.

On inquiry, it was revealed that the activity is in fact overnight rest facilities for travellers and that all the fees collected are forwarded to the Leukaemia Foundation.  To date approx. $30,000 has been donated.

This initiative is the result of the experience the Tavern owner’s family had during one of the family’s recent Leukaemia treatment and is in appreciation of the care that they were all given, over a lengthy interstate internment.

In the writer’s opinion, this exemplary action is worthy of recognition and this type of community involvement should be considered by, not only other commercial enterprise, but by we individuals as well.
