Don Plummer is Zone 1 Singles Champion

At Yamba on Sunday afternoon, Maclean’s Don Plummer bowled brilliantly to win this year’s Zone play-off for the State Open Singles. In the morning game against the Northern Rivers Champion, Don won a hard fought match with a final score of 31 shots to 28. His well performed opponent in the final was Kingscliff’s Tweed-Byron District Champion Steve Massey. Don led Steve for all of the second half of the contest but Steve was keeping in touch. On the penultimate end, Steve seemed to be coming home the better and joined Don at 29 all with a four. Don replied with two absolute perfect draw shots within centimetres of the Jack to win the match on the next and final end. Congratulations Don Plummer who has now earned the right to represent Zone 1 later in the year at the State finals. In the Presidents Reserve final played also at Yamba last Sunday, our Cliff Hinton found his opposition from Cudgen Club (Tweed-Byron District) too hot on the day. However, a very well done Cliff on making it to the Zone final. Congratulations also go to Yamba’s Graham Meany who won the Zone Senior Singles. There were three second and third round matches of Club Minor Pairs and the remaining Semi-final match of Club ‘B’ Grade Singles played last week. Steve Fuller has now found his opponent for the Club ‘B’ Grade Singles Final in Cliff Vagg. This match has been set down for play this Saturday afternoon. For full results see the results section at the end of this report. The next visit to our club will be a mixed one from 32 RSL bowlers on Sunday August 9 for a 10am start.
