Last week Grafton rifle club Member Dennis Hilton travelled to Sydney to compete in the 5-day NSW Rifle Association’s annual Queen’s Championship Prize Shoot.
The shoot was held on Anzac Rifle range, which is located on the headland at Malabar. Located right next to the ocean, this would have to be one of the most picturesque rifle ranges in the country, but its close proximity to the ocean means it can get some of the most challenging winds as well.
Over the five days of shooting Dennis did himself and our club proud as he competed in Target Rifle-B Grade. He was placed 4th in the 2-day McIntosh Aggregate, 1st in the 3 Day Queen’s Aggregate and 1st in the Grand Aggregate – McIntosh & Queen’s 2022.
Meanwhile, at our home range last week, ten shooters were keen to kick off this year’s point score competition at the 300yd mound. They were challenged by variable winds and changing light and at times a bit of rain was thrown into the mix to add to the fun.
Besides these challenges, there were still eight Possibles shot on the day. In Target Rifle Wayne Pearson took home the handicap trophy while the Off Rifle trophy went to Peter Brown. F Standard saw Sue Bloomer take home both the handicap and Off Rifle trophies as did Mark Millard in Hunter Class.
