Cyclist tragically passes away in Maclean

Investigations remain ongoing following a fatal incident which occurred in the Clarence Valley last week.

Shortly before 6pm on Tuesday, June 20, emergency services were called to River Street, Maclean, following reports of a crash involving a bus and a cyclist.

Officers from the Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and found a cyclist deceased at the scene.

The bus driver, a 42-year-old man, and his sole passenger did not sustain any injuries.

A crime scene was established, which was later examined by specialist police from the Far North Coast Crash Investigation Unit.

Following the incident, the bus driver was taken to Maclean Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was then arrested and taken to Maclean Police Station, before being released pending further inquiry.
The cyclist is yet to be formally identified.
