  A bright sunny day greeted the Clarence River lady bowlers who converged on the Maclean Bowling Club on Thursday, October 6 for the District’s annual Combined Presidents Day. Maureen Grimes, Match Committee read the cards and the players adjourned to the Greens for a great mornings play between the new Presidents Team and the District Team. After the bell the players returned to the dining room which was decorated in purple and green with each of the New Presidents having special place cards and settings. After lunch District secretary Lorraine introduced the New Presidents and their guests: Red Rock Corindi’s president Pat Donaldson with her guest Carol Newman – President Pat responded by thanking her club saying she felt honoured and a little humble for all the support and congratulations she had received from them. Wooli’s president Jan Weekes with her guest Wooli’s Life Member Esme McLennan – President Jan replied that she looked forward to a happy and successful year. Maclean’s president Margaret Stallard with her guest Maclean’s Life Member Val Philp – President Margaret said Val who was a previous president was not only her friend but her mentor and hoped she could be as successful as Val had been in her time and said she hoped she could make Maclean WBC a club where friendship and good sportsmanship prevailed. South Grafton’s president Janet Kowal with her husband Bernie – President Janet thanked everyone for a lovely day and said she had never imagined ever being president but hoped that with support from her club members she could be good president. District President Alma then proposed a toast to the New Presidents with New President Pat Donaldson responding saying what a lovely day it had been and thanking secretary Lorraine Demmery for all her hard work in making this day a success. Following the toasts and the cutting of the cake secretary Lorraine then presented the New Presidents with their cards and gifts of gold watches, each one a different style, with each New President responding in turn. Raffles and competitions were duly drawn and winning and lucky teams presented as follows: Winning team – L. Rae, G. Grillenberger and J. Abbott. Lucky team – M. Combley, P. Harvey, C. Gilmore and D.
