Coalcroft Public School reunion

Emma Pritchard

Former staff members and students of Coalcroft Public School are cordially invited to attend a special reunion later this month to share their memories and create new ones as they reflect on their time at one of the Clarence Valley’s oldest schools.

Opened during the 1870s, Coalcroft Public School was an integral part of the education network for many Clarence Valley farming families in the Coaldale region who were unable to travel to larger communities including Copmanhurst and Grafton.

For many years, Coalcroft Public School was managed as a part-time school.

Lessons were held every two weeks to allow the teacher to travel to other small rural communities across remote areas of the Clarence Valley.

The school operated for close to 100 years before closing in 1971.

The reunion will be held on November 27 at the Coaldale Barretts Creek Memorial Hall on the corner of Coaldale Road and Lankeys Creek Road, and is scheduled to commence at 10am.

A morning tea and light lunch will be available for purchase.

Anyone interested in attending is welcome to contact Alan Reardon on 66 472 197 prior to the event.

Local history enthusiasts are also welcome.
