It’s one of the most anticipated swim events of each year – the Yamba Surf Club Annual Ocean Swim. Swimmers from all around the country look forward to this holiday event held 28th December. The wind was up this year which made for very choppy conditions. Being a favourite event of the locals a strong contingent from the Clarence River Masters competed with some impressive results. The seasoned, eight strong ‘team’ consisted of Jan and Helmut Klein, Jill Ennever, Judy King, Bobbie Winger, Alan and Jane Lawrence and Tony Suel. In the 700 metre race Jan Klein came 1st in her age group in a time of 20:31minutes; Jill Ennever 2nd in 17:19mins; Judy King 3rd in 17:21mins; Helmut Klein 3rd in 18:37mins; Allan Lawrence 3rd in 14:44mins and Tony Suel 4th in 19:33 mins. In the 2000m Jane Lawrence (CRM Club President) came 2nd in 32:45m; Bobbie Winger 2nd in 35:51m; Allan Lawrence 2nd in 36:11m; Helmut Klein 1st in 48:14mins.
