Clarence Landcare event at Brooms Head Hall

Help us celebrate the successful installation of 10 community bushfire water tanks in Taloumbi.

The tanks are providing 125,000 litres of water for the RFS for future bushfires. Clarence Landcare are holding an event this Friday night March 8 to showcase the outcomes of the Australian Government Funded Black Summer Bush Fire Preparedness Grant that was initiated after the 2019 Bushfires.

There will be host of information stands including bush fire preparedness equipment, a firefighting trailer, sprinklers, and information for preparing bush fire survival plans. Redcross will also do a brief presentation and provide information about their role after a natural disaster. Clarence Landcare will also present highlights from the 65 eligible properties who received financial support to purchase equipment for bush fire preparedness.

Clarence Landcare Project Officer Ros Woodward who coordinated the Taloumbi Tanks installation said, “it is a great project to be involved in and to be able to provide assistance, guidance and support to so many people after such a traumatic event.”

The event will include a range of local community groups and provide landholders information and opportunities of how they can be involved in feral pig control, protecting coastal emus, cane toad control, nest boxes, weeds, and Black Glossy Cockatoos. Free glossy black food trees grown at Maclean Landcare Nursery will be handed out in the night. The local Brooms Head RFS who have been involved with this project will also be in attendance.

Starting at 5pm we will have BBQ food and music whilst watching the sunset over the ocean. It seems a perfect way to bring community together to share important information and knowledge of the local area.

After the event those wishing to stay on can join in for the Brooms Cane Toad Bust (meeting at 7:30pm for an 8pm start at the Bowling Club) – BYO torch, gloves & shoes.

Residents of Brooms Head who would like their yards checked for Cane Toads by Clarence Landcare staff on the night please email canetoads@clarencelandcare.com.au with your contact details.

Please RSVP for catering purposes to Ros 0428 191955 by Friday noon March 8.
