Broadway star to shine at Maclean carols

Lynne Mowbray |

Maclean Rotary Club’s ‘Carols under the big top’ this year will feature the amazing talent of International Broadway star, Lexi Lawson.

Lexi and husband Leon Gulaptis have returned to Leon’s home town to spend Christmas with his parents, Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis and wife Vicki and their family.

Over the last two years, Lexi has performed in the leading role of ‘Eliza’, in Broadway’s hit musical ‘Hamilton’.

This is not the first time Lexi has performed in Maclean however; in 2012 she offered to sing at a charity event at the Maclean Services Club, for young Yamba girl Bonnie O’Neill, who was suffering from cancer.

Rotary Club of Maclean president Anne Farrell said that she found out about a week ago that Lexi would be coming to Maclean and that she was very interested in singing at the Maclean Christmas Carols.

“We were honoured to think that she wants to participate in this event,” Mrs Farrell said.
“It’s (not only) wonderful for Maclean, but it’s wonderful for the people who will be providing the musical backing accompanying her.
“We’re very privileged that she’s happy to do something like this in her husband’s hometown.
“It’s so exciting that she’s happy to sing in Maclean, especially when she’s on holidays.
“I mean it’s not a big city, Maclean is just a small country town, isn’t it?
“I hope the people of Maclean and surrounds want to come and see her and hear her beautiful voice.
“Crikey, for a gold coin donation (at the carols) you get an international performer.
“You don’t get something like this happening very often.
“We’d love to encourage everyone to come along and have a wonderful night and be entertained by the calibre of Lexi Lawson.
“How lucky are we? She said.

Maclean Rotary Club’s ‘Carols under the big top’ is on Saturday, 15 December, at St Joseph’s Primary School, 23 Stanley Street, Maclean, at 6pm.
