Big year coming up for triathlon competitors

Our regular triathlon club season is over for another year. The overall club pointscore champion for the season was Jason Culton. He was not only the most consistent but also the fastest age group athlete, so it was well deserved. Runner up and the most improved this year was Derek van Leest with Veronica Barker the female point winner. Congratulations to all club members for a great year and we look forward to a big season coming up from September. It will be a big year in triathlon with around 10 members qualifying to compete in the World Championships at the Gold Coast in September; then the Yamba triathlon is on again, with NX Sports taking over the event, which is set down for November 17-18 this year; the official website will be launched very shortly. We are very excited for them to be taking over as they already run the popular Kingscliff and Byron Bay triathlons and will now have Yamba and a new event at Ballina in August to look forward too. Triathlon NSW is also about to launch a North Coast series which will involve these events plus Trial Bay and Coffs Harbour. The club will be running some triathlon clinics leading up to November for people who would like to try a tri. Apart from the individual participation, we encourage families and friends to organise a team and get involved. Darren Adams
