Awards galore for Yamba Nippers

Yamba Nippers had one of their most successful ever State Titles at the weekend picking up 5 medals at the NSW State Age Surf Lifesaving Championships at Queenscliff Beach in Sydney.

Felix Forbes claimed a silver medal with a very close second in the U12 years boys board race final. Felix also finished 4th in the U12 years boys 1km beach run; 4th in the U12 boys 2 x 500 metres beach run relay with Kydan Jones; 8th in the iron man final and 12th in the surf race final.

Yamba had very strong results in the U10 years boys age group. Ziggy O’Brien claimed the bronze medal in the surf race final with Leo Dean in 6th place. They then teamed with Clarry Dougherty and Leo South to win the silver medal in the surf teams’ event behind Swansea Belmont.

The U10 boys’ team of Clarry Dougherty, Leo Dean and Ziggy O’Brien also won the bronze medal in the board relay final behind Redhead and Elouera clubs. Clarry finished a close-up 4th in the board race final.

Yamba’s other medal winner was Leo South who swam a great race to finish 3rd in the U9 years surf race final at his first State Titles.

Yamba’s team of 15 Nippers all competed well in the their individual and team events with a number of them making it through to semi final level. The club finished in 24th place in the carnival pointscore out of the 80 clubs competing.

Also, at the weekend the Yamba Boilers boat crew competed at the Queensland State Masters Titles at Mooloolaba and came home with the silver medals after finishing second to Currumbin in the Over 180 Years female boat race.
