Appealing for community generosity and support

The Salvation Army in the Clarence Valley are urging residents to get involved in the 2023 Red Shield Appeal with funds raised locally staying local to support community services and programs in the area.

While all Australians are feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living pressures, it’s more extreme for some, and The Salvos are seeing more and more people living below the breadline, with many skipping meals, going without prescribed medications, and struggling to keep the lights on.

Now in its 59th year, the annual Red Shield Appeal funds vital community programs.

Each year, through The Salvation Army’s nationwide network of services, the Salvos provide assistance to one person every 17 seconds, more than 1.88 million sessions of care to people in need, over 1 million bed nights to those in need of accommodation, and more than 1.52 million meals to people who accessed our homelessness services “We don’t want anyone in the Clarence Valley to struggle alone, times are tough, but we can get through it together, with your support,” said Major Cathryn Williamson from the Grafton Salvation Army.

Collectors will be receiving donations from May 15-21 at a number of locations including Grafton Shoppingworld, Grafton Food Emporium, Grafton Bunnings, and South Grafton Coles.

A Bunnings BBQ will also be held on Saturday May 27, with all funds raised going to the Appeal.

“This year we also have a couple of EFTPOS machines to make it easier for those who prefer to use card,” Major Williamson added.  Donations can also be made at the Salvation Army Family Stores at 26 Queen Street, Grafton, and 267 River Street, Maclean, or online at https://www.digitaldoorknock.salvationarmy.org.au/grafton-salvos

“The Clarence Valley is known for being generous and supportive and we know this year will be no different,” said Major Williamson.

“We are encouraged that people do what they can to help their community.”
