There was plenty of love, cheerfulness, and generosity in the room when the Grafton Branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary (GBUHA) hosted their annual Mother’s Day Morning Tea at the Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) on May 3.

As she graciously welcomed more than 170 attendees, GBUHA President Kerrie DiMattia described the setting in front of her as “stunning” and thanked everyone for their ongoing support of the community organisation, which raises funds throughout the year to purchase essential equipment for Grafton Base Hospital (GBH).

“Thank you all for not only joining us today, but for also supporting us and our GBUHA Op Shop through your generous donations,” she said.

“Everything you do helps to make a difference in your community, and it’s wonderful to see so many of you here with us today.”

Clarence Health Services General Manager Dan Madden and Director of Nursing and Midwifery at GBH Sharon Wright also attended the event last week, with Mr Madden taking the opportunity to publicly thank the GBUHA for their continuous efforts while acknowledging the extraordinary level of community support they receive.

“It really is very humbling,” he told the audience.

“And it all helps to make a huge difference to staff and patients at GBH.

“Thank you.”

While songbird Kim Connor delighted the audience with her beautiful vocal range, and plates of yummy morsels were shared in-between cups of tea and coffee across the tables, MC Ray Smith organised bouquets of flowers to be gifted to the oldest and youngest mums in the room.

“Every Mum deserves to be celebrated,” he said.

Featuring raffles, a tombola, and lucky door prizes kindly donated by Clarence Valley businesses, the Mother’s Day Morning Tea raised over $5000 for the GBUHA, with Ms DiMattia confirming there are currently “several substantial pieces of equipment” GBH are in the process of selecting for purchase.
