And still the wet impacts Grafton golf

Continuing wet weather continues to create havoc with our golf programme with very little golf possible over the past week or so.

However last Tuesday week, 51 brave golfers challenged the course and the prevailing wet conditions in the Veteran/Members competitions.

The field was massively restricted as the use of golf carts was not permitted due to safety concerns and to add to the pain all nearest the pin prizes were temporarily suspended on the day.

Results in both the members as well as the Veteran’s component for the day were identical. Leading the field home in both competitions was Michael Corfe (21) who completed his round with 32 points against his name. The first runner-up position went to Irwin Perring (16) with 30. Two players, Steve Houlahan (12) and Peter Rouse (8) were the next in line for a trophy, with Steve eventually awarded with the 2nd runner-up position with Peter having to settle for just a pro ball following the countback. The remaining pro balls went down to 15 points in the members competition and 16 on a countback in the Veteran side of things.

Herron Cup

The coming weekend one of our blue-ribbon events for the year will hopefully go ahead, weather permitting, that is the 36-hole Heron Cup. The cost for both days will be $55 and $30 a day for either Saturday or Sunday events. Those players intending to contest the 36-hole event must pay their golf fees prior to hitting off on Saturday. There is no point in entering just for Saturday, playing a blinder round, and then deciding you want to play in the 36-hole event. Unfortunately for players who find themselves in that position you will be unable to follow that course of action, as indicated earlier you have to nominate for the 36 holes on the Saturday.

Course changes

When players next play a round of golf, they will notice some significant changes to the course. The major change being the completion of the cart path on the 17th.  The next lot of scheduled cart path improvements will be on the path from the 7th green to the 8th tee and that will be followed by the path on the 4th, something to look forward in that aspect of our golf.

Vets golf

Grafton Veteran golfers will be disappointed to learn that Bob Pike has resigned his position on the Veteran’s Committee. Bob not only made a major contribution to all golf activities relating to Veterans golf, but he also had a presence around the Club. Not only was he active around Veteran golf he also contributed to both men’s and women members competition with his annual week of golf sponsorship which is more than appreciated by all our members in general. Bob will not be lost to golf his support of Veteran golf in particular, and Grafton golf in general will be missed. Should you run into Bob in and around the Golf Club, it would be a good opportunity to thank him personally for his outstanding support of Grafton Golf.
