A quick and generous response to Lions Bush Fire Appeal

To aid local bush fire victims, Lions Club of Maclean has conducted a community bucket appeal in the streets and through businesses. The response was quick and generous. In a very short time Lions had collected $2,000 and this amount keeps growing as members of the public continue to turn up with additional contributions.

Lion president Robin Parker explained that people emptied their wallets and then came forward the following day because they did not have enough cash at the time. She said that Maclean Lions will add to the appeal and the funds will be distributed in our own Lions District. Some of the victims are left with only the clothes they wear.

President Robin went on to say, “As a Lion it is humbling to feel the trust the community has for us. Lions takes nothing out of contributions for administrative costs. Lion members pay club dues to see this does not happen. Every cent goes to what it was given for”

This week started with a further boost. Lawrence Over 50’s organisation joined the contributions, adding another $500, so that the collection already exceeds two and a half thousand dollars.

If anyone would like to add to the appeal, Lions will be selling Christmas hamper tickets in the street each morning.
