Young fashionistas take centre stage

Smiling cheerfully, and in some instances shyly, more than 20 children and teenagers proudly modelled their finest and most eye-catching race wear as they took part in the 2022 Westlawn Black and Gold Kids Fashions on the Field during day one of the XXXX July Winter Racing Carnival on July 3.

It was a difficult decision for the judges with so many adorable entrants competing across three age categories, and several outfits had been colour coordinated in keeping with the black and gold theme of the day.

Lucy Donoghue was announced as the winner of the 0-3 Years category after she wowed the judges with her stunning plaid outfit and winter beret.

Modelling another gorgeous black and gold ensemble, Addison McGuren won the 4-7 Years category while Makella McGuren won the 8-17 Years category.

Following the event, participants were awarded $5 vouchers from I Scream as the winners excitedly showed off their sashes to their proud parents and loved ones in attendance.

Due to the postponement of Races 4-9 on the program, following a serious incident involving apprentice jockey Leah Kilner during the closing stages of Race 3, the Westlawn Black and Gold Fashions on the Field was also rescheduled to be held at a later date.
