Yamba Women’s Bowls 85th Birthday

Tuesday April 19

Three rinks of Triples for our return after the Easter break with a lovely sunny day for mixed bowls.

The winner for the day was Steve Butler’s team of L. McLean and M. Abbott defeating S. Farrar, S. Carroll, R. Millynn. Other rinks results were S. Lindsay, P. Maddison, I. Parker d M. Sakac, D. Atkinson, H. Atkinson and H. Kellett, V. Terry, I. Parker d B. Backshall, V. Beddow, C. Ritale.

Thursday April 21

A small field today with many bowlers still enjoying Easter festivities with family and unfortunately, we have also had a brush with COVID. We wish those who have been ill a speedy recovery.

One game of triples took out the prize for today and it was two relatively new bowlers taking on the role of Skip. Jane Madden lead her team of K. Bruchert, M. Wall to take home the Bowlo Bucks after defeating P. McKenna, L. McLean, B. Backshall. Another triples game saw B. Shatte (swinger), P. Chilcott, C. Ritale overcome B. Shatte, M.  Porter, G. Davis. Two pairs’ games made up the rest of the field with a close win for V. Beddow, J. Button over S. Lindsay, M. Sakac and C. Aitchison, M. Jenner d M. Parker, H. Atkinson.

Best wishes go to our secretary Joan Scadden recovering from heart surgery in Sydney. Joan assures me she is well on the way to returning home and is feeling fine. Joan managed to skip her No 4 Pennant team to the finals of the No 4 Pennants at Tuncurry recently, unaware of the lurking dangers of heart disease. This reinforces the advice of the health authorities to get checked regularly for heart health.

Almost time for the Major/Minor Pairs as entries will close on Thursday May 5 with play starting a week away on May 12.

Happy 85th Birthday to Yamba Woman’s Bowling Club for Wednesday April 27. Celebrations will take place on the next day – April 28th. Please make sure your name is on the sheet on our ladies’ board.

And on that same auspicious day it is the first-ever final of our new competition – the 100- up. After many weeks of rounds the finalists have emerged – and it will be Pauline Chilcott and Jane Madden vying for the inaugural 100-up title. Good bowling to both these emerging champions.
