A heavy vehicle driver was lucky to avoid serious injury after the log truck he was driving overturned on Armidale Road last week, scattering its load across the bitumen.

The incident occurred 5km north of Nymboida near Blaxlands Creek, around 8am on April 20.

Grafton Police, NSW Ambulance paramedics, RFS personnel, and Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Grafton and South Grafton attended the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and the diesel tanks on the heavy vehicle were not ruptured as a result of the crash.

The incident closed the southbound lane of Armidale Road for three hours while a contraflow was temporarily established to minimise disruptions to motorists.

Grafton Fire and Rescue 306 Station Deputy Captain Chris Rumpf said an excavator was transported to the scene to aid in the removal of the strewn logs.

The heavy vehicle driver, who was able to free himself from the cabin, was conveyed to Grafton Base Hospital (GBH) for treatment.

At the time of publication, investigations surrounding the cause of the incident remained ongoing.
